The Name Lorelei
Lorelei takes her name from the German legend about the Lorelei.
The legend of die Lorelei:
The short version of the German legend is that a woman throws herself off a
rock in the Rhine river, because she was unhappy about love.
In some versions, she had recently lost her love in a tragedy. Her spirit then
dwelled there, singing a sorrowful song. Her song lured ships to the rock where
they were destroyed, much like a siren or mermaid.
